Disassembly [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. SECURE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the automatic transmission assembly to an overhaul attachment.

  2. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH 
    1. Remove the nut, spring washer and transmission control shaft lever RH from the manual valve lever shaft.

    2. Remove the manual valve lever shaft spacer from the transmission control shaft lever RH.

    3. Remove the grommet from the transmission control shaft lever RH.

  3. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, bend back the tabs of the lock washer.

    2. Remove the lock nut and lock washer from the park/neutral position switch assembly.
    3. Remove the bolt and park/neutral position switch assembly from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Make sure that the manual valve lever shaft has not been rotated prior to installing the park/neutral position switch assembly as the detent spring may become detached from the manual valve lever shaft.

  4. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the transmission oil cooler.

  5. REMOVE BREATHER PLUG HOSE 
    1. Remove the breather plug hose from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the breather plug hose.
  6. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLANGE YOKE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the lock nut.
      • SST: 09930-00010

      NOTE:
      • Use SST with the tapered part facing the shaft.
      • Do not modify the tip of SST with a grinder or other device.
      • Completely release the staked part of the lock nut before removing it.
      • Do not damage the threads of the shaft.
    2. Using SST and a 30 mm deep socket wrench, remove the lock nut.
      • SST: 09330-00021 
      • SST: 09950-30012

    3. Remove SST.
    4. Tap the automatic transmission flange yoke assembly with a plastic-faced hammer to remove it.
    5. Remove the 2 rear No. 1 output shaft bearing spacers and rear cover sleeve.
    6. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal from the automatic transmission flange yoke assembly.

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the automatic transmission flange yoke assembly.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  7. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:

    Do not turn the automatic transmission assembly upside down as this may cause the transmission valve body assembly to be contaminated with foreign matter in the bottom of the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.

    1. Remove the overflow plug and gasket.
    2. Remove the drain plug and gasket.
    3. Remove the 9 bolts, automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly and automatic transmission oil pan gasket.

    4. Remove the 3 transmission oil cleaner magnets from the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.

    5. Examine the particles in the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.
      1. Use the removed transmission oil cleaner magnets to collect any steel chips. Examine the chips and particles in the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly and on the transmission oil cleaner magnets to determine what type of wear might be found in the automatic transmission assembly.

        Result

        Steel (magnetic):

        Bearing, gear and clutch plate wear

        Brass (non-magnetic):

        Bushing wear

  8. REMOVE VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 [08/2015 - 10/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [10/2016 - ]

  9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 [08/2015 - 10/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 [10/2016 - ]

  10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the 3 transmission revolution sensor connectors.

    2. Remove the bolt and transmission wire.

    3. Remove the bolt and valve body wire harness clamp from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the bolt and transmission revolution sensor (NT) from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.
  14. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG 
    1. Using a 17 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the automatic transmission case plug and O-ring from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

  15. REMOVE PARKING LOCK PAWL BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and parking lock pawl bracket.

  16. REMOVE MANUAL VALVE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver and hammer, cut off the spacer and remove it from the manual valve lever shaft.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the manual valve lever shaft.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Using a 3 mm pin punch and a hammer, remove the spring pin.

      HINT: 

      Slowly tap out the spring pin so that it does not fall into the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the manual valve lever shaft and manual valve lever sub-assembly from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.
  17. REMOVE PARKING LOCK ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the parking lock rod sub-assembly from the manual valve lever sub-assembly.

  18. REMOVE PARKING LOCK PAWL SHAFT

    1. Remove the parking lock pawl shaft, parking lock pawl and spring.

  19. REMOVE MANUAL VALVE LEVER SHAFT OIL SEAL 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the manual valve lever shaft oil seal from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

  22. REMOVE NO. 1 BRAKE DISC 
    1. Remove the 4 No. 1 brake plates, 4 No. 1 brake discs and No. 1 brake flange.

    1. Place SST on the reverse clutch balancer, and compress the reverse clutch return spring sub-assembly using a press.

      HINT: 

      If the reverse clutch drum sub-assembly is difficult to remove, reinstall the snap ring for the reverse clutch discs.

    2. Remove the 3 O-rings from the reverse clutch drum sub-assembly.

    2. Using SST, remove the snap ring.
