Replacement [04/2013 - 08/2015]: Procedure

  1. REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 
    1. Lift the vehicle. [*1]
      NOTE:

      Set the vehicle on a lift so that the vehicle is kept level when it is lifted up (make sure that the tilt angle from the front to rear of the vehicle is within +/- 1°).

    2. Remove the front suspension member brace.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

    3. w/ No. 2 Engine Under Cover:
      1. Remove the No. 2 engine under cover.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

    4. Remove the drain plug and gasket from the automatic transmission assembly and drain the automatic transmission fluid. [*2]

    5. Temporarily install the gasket and the drain plug to the automatic transmission assembly. [*3]

      HINT: 

      Reuse the old gasket as the drain plug will be removed again.

    6. w/ Case Cover:
      1. Remove the 2 bolts and transmission case cover from the automatic transmission assembly.

    7. Remove the refill plug and O-ring from the automatic transmission assembly. [*4]

      *a Refill Hole
    8. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the overflow plug and gasket from the automatic transmission assembly. [*5]

    9. Add automatic transmission fluid to the refill hole until it flows out of the overflow hole. [*6]
      NOTE:
      • Use Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
      • Be sure to add automatic transmission fluid slowly. If automatic transmission fluid is added quickly, the automatic transmission fluid may hit internal parts and bounce back, resulting in automatic transmission fluid coming out of the refill hole.

    10. Wait until the automatic transmission fluid flow slows and only drips come out. [*7]

    11. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, temporarily install the overflow plug and gasket to the automatic transmission assembly. [*8]

      HINT: 

      Reuse the old gasket as the overflow plug will be removed again.

    12. Add automatic transmission fluid to the refill hole using the amount of automatic transmission fluid specified for removal and installation of the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly. [*9]

      Specified Amount of Fluid

      1.4 liters (1.5 US qts, 1.2 Imp.qts)

      HINT: 

      If the specified amount of automatic transmission fluid cannot be added, perform steps [*10] to [*15].

    13. Temporarily install the O-ring and the refill plug to the automatic transmission assembly. [*10]

      HINT: 

      Reuse the old O-ring as the refill plug will be removed again.

    14. Lower the vehicle. [*11]
    15. Start the engine. [*12]
      NOTE:

      To reduce load, make sure that all electrical systems, such as the air conditioning, lighting system, electric fan and audio system are off.

    16. Slowly move the shift lever from P to D, select the 1 range to the 6 range and then move the shift lever to P. [*13]
    17. Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds to warm it up. [*14]
    18. Turn the engine switch off. [*15]
    19. Repeat steps [*1] to [*15].
    20. Repeat steps [*1] to [*2].
    21. Install the drain plug and a new gasket to the automatic transmission assembly.

      Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

    22. Repeat steps [*4] to [*11].
    23. Adjust the automatic transmission fluid level.

      Refer to ADJUSTMENT [04/2013 - 08/2015] 

    24. w/ Case Cover:
      1. Install the transmission case cover to the automatic transmission assembly with the 2 bolts.

        Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf/cm, 48 in.lbf) 

    25. w/ No. 2 Engine Under Cover:
      1. Install the No. 2 engine under cover.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 99

    26. Install the front suspension member brace.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 100

    27. Lower the vehicle.
    28. Operation complete.
