DTC P0617: Starter Relay Circuit High [11/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

      Powertrain > ECT > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Starter Signal Starter signal ON or OFF
      • ON: Engine is cranking
      • OFF: Engine switch on (IG)

    5. Check the value displayed on the Techstream when the vehicle is driven at 20 km/h (12.4 mph) or more.
      WARNING:

      When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

    Result:

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the F176 park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Park/Neutral Position Switch Assembly)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 5 (L) Shift lever in P Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever in N Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in P or N 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 5 (L) Shift lever in P 10 kΩ or higher
      Shift lever in R 10 kΩ or higher
      Shift lever in N 10 kΩ or higher
      Shift lever in D 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2021 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A118 TCM connector.

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to TCM)
    2. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block and No. 2 junction block assembly.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A118-15 (STA) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 2 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (TCM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CLEAR THE DTC AND RUNNING TEST 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > ECT > Clear DTCs 

    4. Clear the DTCs.

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    5. Perform the monitor drive pattern.

      Refer to MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN [11/2021 - ]

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > ECT > Trouble Codes 

    7. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTC P0617 is output B

    Result:

  5. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM.

      Refer to COMPONENTS [11/2021 - ]

    PERFORM A/T CODE REGISTRATION. Refer to  REGISTRATION [11/2021 - ]
