Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Malfunction [09/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output (Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [09/2014 - 10/2015] or HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [10/2015 - ] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
CAN communication DTC is not output A
CAN communication DTC is output B

    Result:  B

    B

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

(Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [09/2014 - 10/2015] or HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [10/2015 - ] )

    Result:  A

    A

    See step  2

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (WATER TEMPERATURE METER OPERATION)
    1. Use the Active Test to check the operation of the engine coolant temperature receiver gauge (Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [09/2014 - 10/2015] or DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2015 - ] ).
      COMBINATION METER

Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
Water Temperature Meter Operation Engine coolant temperature receiver gauge Low, Normal or High -

      OK

Engine coolant temperature receiver gauge indication is normal.

    Result:  NG

    NG

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

    (Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ] )

    Result:  OK

    OK

    See step  3

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMPERATURE)
    1. Use the Data List to check the engine coolant temperature (Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [09/2014 - 10/2015] or DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2015 - ] ).
      COMBINATION METER

Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Coolant Temperature Engine coolant temperature/0 to 127.5°C (0 to 261.5°F) After warming up: 75 to 100°C (167 to 212°F) -

      OK

Engine coolant temperature value displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the engine coolant temperature receiver gauge indication.

    Result:  NG
