Speed Signal Circuit [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the H14 combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H14-19 (+S) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Combination Meter Assembly)

      HINT: 

      If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplies power to the combination meter assembly, the combination meter assembly will output a waveform.

    Result:  NG

  2. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Reconnect the H14 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A40 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A40-14 (SP1) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

  3. INSPECT BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU) (INPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Check the input waveform.

      1. Reconnect the A40 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.
      2. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
      3. Connect an oscilloscope to terminal H14-20 (SI) and body ground.
      4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      5. Turn the wheel slowly.
      6. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
        Vehicle condition Engine switch on (IG), wheel being rotated

        The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU) 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ] )

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU)) 
    1. Disconnect the H14 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A40 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H14-20 (SI) - A40-14 (SP1) Always Below 1 Ω
      H14-20 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result:  OK

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ] )

    Result:  NG

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the H115 junction connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H14-19 (+S) - H115-21 Always Below 1 Ω
      H14-19 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result:  NG

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  OK

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Inspect for a short in the wire harnesses and connectors connected to the junction connector shown in the wiring diagram.

      HINT: 

      If voltage is not present, it is possible that an ECU or circuit has a malfunction. The malfunctioning ECU or circuit will be diagnosed in the following steps.

      1. Disconnect the H114 and H115 junction connectors.
      2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Voltage

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        H114-12 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        H114-13 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        H114-14 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        H114-15 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        H115-20 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        H115-22 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V

    1. Select the circuit for which voltage was not present in step 6.

    1. Disconnect the H51 windshield wiper relay assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H51-24 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result:  OK

    OK 

    REPLACE WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY ASSEMBLY

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the H56 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H56-27 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result:  OK

    OK 

    REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY)

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the H97*1, H89*2 or j1*3 radio receiver assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H97-56 (SPD)*1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      H89-17 (SPD)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      j1-56*3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    1. Disconnect the A22 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the D6 TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H115-20 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result:  NG

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT CIRCUIT IN ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the D6 TCM connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      H115-20 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V

      HINT: 

      If the result is as specified, there may be a short circuit in the ECM.

    Result:  OK

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the H99*1, *3 or H87*2 stereo component amplifier assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H99-17 (SPD)*1, *3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      H87-11 (SPD)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/ Audio and Visual System (for Radio and Display Type)
      • *3: w/ Audio and Visual System (for Radio and Display Type with Digital Audio Broadcasting Function)

    Result:  OK

    REPLACE STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY

  15. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the H101 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H101-10 (SPDP) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result:  OK

    OK
