Transmission Control Switch Circuit [10/2014 - 09/2017]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (Shift SW Status (S Range)) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Data List
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Shift SW Status (S Range) Sport mode select switch status ON or OFF
      • ON: Shift lever in M, "+" or "-"
      • OFF: Shift lever not in M, "+" or "-"

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Shift SW Status (S Range)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Data display is within Normal Condition range A
      Data display is not within Normal Condition range B

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SPORT SHIFT UP SW AND SPORT SHIFT DOWN SW) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Sport Shift Up SW Sport shift up switch status ON or OFF
      • ON: Shift lever held in "+" (up-shift)
      • OFF: Shift lever not held in "+" (up-shift)

      • ON: Shift lever held in "-" (down-shift)
      • OFF: Shift lever not held in "-" (down-shift)

  3. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transmission Control Switch)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 (SFTU) - 2 (E) Shift lever held in "+" Below 1 Ω
      3 (SFTU) - 2 (E) Shift lever in M 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (SFTD) - 2 (E) Shift lever held in "-" Below 1 Ω
      1 (SFTD) - 2 (E) Shift lever in M 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2014 - ]

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I23-2 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

      (to ECM)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A35-42 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift lever held in "+" (Up-shift) Below 1 Ω
      A35-42 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift lever in M 10 kΩ or higher
      A35-43 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift lever held in "-" (Down-shift) Below 1 Ω
      A35-43 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift lever in M 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  6. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector.

      (Transmission Control Switch)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (IG) - 5 (S) Shift lever in M Below 1 Ω
      4 (IG) - 5 (S) Shift lever not in M 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2014 - ]

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (POWER SOURCE)) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      I23-4 (IG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    CHECK POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 

    Result: 

    OK

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the I23 transmission control switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the A35 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I23-5 (S) - A35-59 (S) Always Below 1 Ω
      I23-5 (S) or A35-59 (S) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK
