DTC P0987-14: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch "E" Circuit Short to Ground or Open [10/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0987-14) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes 

    5. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Only DTC P0987-14 is output A
      P0987-14 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If a solenoid is stuck OFF, DTCs for several solenoids including the malfunctioning solenoid will be stored.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2014 - 09/2015]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2015 - 09/2016]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2016 - 09/2017]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2017 - 05/2018]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [05/2018 - 05/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [05/2019 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [07/2020 - ] 

    Result:

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the C21 wiring harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the C20 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C21-10 (TPS3) - C20-85 (TPS3) Always Below 1 Ω
      C21-10 (TPS3) or C20-85 (TPS3) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. INSPECT WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR 
    1. Remove the wiring harness connector.

      *1 Wiring Harness Connector - -
      *a Transmission Wire Side *b ECM Side
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-10 (TPS3) - C21-10 (TPS3) Always Below 1 Ω
      A-10 (TPS3) - All other terminals except C21-10 (TPS3) Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2014 - 09/2015]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [09/2015 - 05/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [05/2019 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE (NO. 3 ATF PRESSURE SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the ATF temperature sensor assembly connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - ]

    2. Remove the wiring harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *1 Transmission Wire
      *a ATF Temperature Sensor Assembly Side
      *b Wiring Harness Connector Side

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      TPS3 ATF temperature sensor assembly side - A-10 (TPS3) wiring harness connector side Always Below 1 Ω
      TPS3 ATF temperature sensor assembly side - Body ground and all other terminals except A-10 (TPS3) wiring harness connector side Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2014 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. REPLACE NO. 3 ATF PRESSURE SWITCH (ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Replace the ATF temperature sensor assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - ]

      Result

      Proceed to

  6. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2014 - 05/2019] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [05/2019 - ]

      Powertrain > Transmission > Clear DTCs 

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    4. Perform the monitor drive pattern.

      Refer to MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN [10/2014 - ]

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes 

    6. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Only DTC P0987-14 is output A
      DTCs are not output B

    Result: 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2014 - 05/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [05/2019 - ]
