On-Vehicle Inspection [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK 
    1. Check fuel pump operation.
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
        NOTE:

        Do not start the engine.

      3. Turn the Techstream on.
      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Circuit Relay.

        Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

        Activate the Circuit Relay
      5. Check for pressure in the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel line. Check that sounds of fuel flowing from the fuel tank assembly can be heard. If no sounds can be heard, check the relay, fuel pump, ECM and wiring connectors.
    2. Inspect for fuel leaks.
      1. Check that there are no fuel leaks from the fuel system after doing any maintenance or repairs. If there is a fuel leak, repair or replace parts as necessary.
    3. Turn the engine switch off.
    4. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
  2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE 
    1. Discharge fuel system pressure.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - 09/2020] , or refer to PRECAUTION [09/2020 - ] 

    2. Measure the battery voltage.

      Standard Voltage

      11 to 14 V

    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 10/2016] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2016 - 10/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2017 - 09/2020] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2021 - 09/2022] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2022 - 10/2023] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2023 - ]

    4. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly (for Direct Injection).

      1. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pump assembly.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - 09/2020] , or refer to PRECAUTION [09/2020 - ] 

    5. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly (for Port Injection).

      1. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel delivery pipe.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

    6. Install SST (EFI fuel pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.

    7. Wipe up any spilled fuel.
    8. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 10/2016] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2016 - 10/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2017 - 09/2020] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2021 - 09/2022] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2022 - 10/2023] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2023 - ]

    9. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    10. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      NOTE:

      Do not start the engine.

    11. Turn the Techstream on.
    12. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Circuit Relay.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Activate the Circuit Relay
    13. Measure the fuel pressure.

      Standard Fuel Pressure

      196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2 , 28 to 121 psi)

      • If the fuel pressure is less than the standard, check the fuel hoses and their connections, fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel main valve assembly.
      • If the result is not as specified, replace the fuel main valve assembly.
    14. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
    15. Start the engine.
    16. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

      Standard Fuel Pressure

      196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2 , 28 to 121 psi)

      HINT: 

      Refer to Standard Idle Speed.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2015 - 09/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [09/2020 - ]

    17. Stop the engine.
    18. After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST to prevent fuel from spraying.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 10/2016] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2016 - 10/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2017 - 09/2020] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2021 - 09/2022] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2022 - 10/2023] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2023 - ]

    19. Connect the fuel tube sub-assembly (for Port Injection).
      1. Connect the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel delivery pipe.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

    20. Connect the fuel tube sub-assembly (for Direct Injection).
      1. Connect the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel pump assembly.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - 09/2020] , or refer to PRECAUTION [09/2020 - ] 

    21. Inspect for fuel leaks.

      See step  1

  3. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE (for High Pressure) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Start and warm up the engine.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Fuel Pressure (High).

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List

      Fuel Pressure (High)
    6. Check the high pressure side fuel pressure at 3000 rpm (shift lever in N, engine warmed up and A/C off).

      Standard Fuel Pressure

      4000 to 8000 kPa (40.8 to 81.6 kgf/cm2 , 580 to 1160 psi)

      If the result is not as specified, check the fuel pump, fuel pump assembly, fuel pressure sensor and wire harnesses.

    7. Stop the engine.
  4. ACTIVE TEST (Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut. Select a cylinder from #1 to #4.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

      Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut

      HINT: 

      Perform the Active Test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.

    5. After stopping injection of the cylinder for which the Active Test was performed, check the idling state.

      OK

      The idling speed changes.

      HINT: 

      Perform the Active Test for each cylinder. It is not possible to test multiple cylinders at once.
