Removal [08/2015 - 10/2016]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  2. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD) 

    See step  2

  3. SEPARATE FRONT SPEED SENSOR (for AWD) 

    See step  3

  4. REMOVE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT (for AWD) 

    See step  4

  5. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 

    See step  2

  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  7. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 

    See step  7

  8. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 

    See step  8

  9. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

  10. SEPARATE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front lower ball joint assembly from the steering knuckle.

  11. SEPARATE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front lower ball joint assembly from the steering knuckle.

  12. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE 
    1. Remove the clip and nut.

    2. Install SST to the front upper suspension arm assembly as shown in the illustration.

      *a 1 mm (0.0394 in.)
      • SST: 09960-20010 
        1. 09961-02060
      NOTE:

      Check that the clearance measurement between SST and the steering knuckle is 1 mm (0.0394 in.).

    3. Using SST, remove the steering knuckle from the front upper suspension arm assembly as shown in the illustration.
      • SST: 09960-20010

      *a Molybdenum grease application area *b Place wrench here
      *c Center Nut *d Spacer
      *e String - -
      WARNING:

      Apply molybdenum grease to the threads and end of the SST bolt.

      NOTE:
      • Install SST with the center nut so that A and B shown in the illustration are parallel. Otherwise, the front upper suspension arm dust cover may be damaged.
      • Be sure to place a wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
      • Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
      • Do not damage the steering knuckle.
      • Make sure that SST is securely positioned on the spacer.
      • Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the front upper suspension arm assembly to prevent SST from falling off.

      HINT: 

      If the steering knuckle spacer has come off, replace the steering knuckle with a new one.
