On-Vehicle Inspection [09/2020 - 11/2021]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT WARNING OR INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATION (INITIAL CHECK) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Check the operation of the following warning and indicator lights.
      • Brake warning light/red (malfunction)
      • SRS warning light
      • EPS warning light
      • MIL (Check engine warning light)
      • PCS warning light
      • Slip indicator light
      • VSC OFF indicator light
      • ABS warning light
      • Tire pressure warning light
      • Brake warning light/yellow (minor malfunction)
      • Eco driving indicator light
      • Brake hold operated indicator light
      • BSM OFF indicator light*1
      • RCTA OFF indicator light*1
      • PKSA OFF indicator light*2
      • PKSB OFF indicator light*2
      • Brake hold standby indicator light
        1. *1: w/ Blind Spot Monitor System
        2. *2: w/ Parking Support Brake System

      OK

      Directly after the engine switch is turned to ON, all of the above lights illuminate and then turn off.

      HINT: 

      The illumination of each warning light and indicator light varies.

  2. INSPECT SPEEDOMETER 
    NOTE:
    • If the tire size or tire inflation pressure is not within the specified range, or the tires are excessively worn, the speedometer indication error will increase. Therefore, make sure to perform this inspection after checking that the tire size, tire inflation pressure and tire wear are in the specified range.

      Refer to INSPECTION [09/2020 - 11/2021]

    • When the vehicle stability control system is malfunctioning, an accurate vehicle speed signal may not be able to be obtained. Therefore, make sure to confirm that the vehicle stability control system is not malfunctioning before performing this procedure.

      Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [09/2020 - ]

    HINT: 

    The indicated value of the speedometer has an allowable range. Therefore, even when the combination meter assembly is not malfunctioning, the actual vehicle speed and the indicated value speed may not match.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Brake/EPB / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Chassis > Brake/EPB > Data List

        Speedometer reading is within the acceptable range at each vehicle speed.

  3. INSPECT TACHOMETER 
    NOTE:

    When the SFI system is malfunctioning, an accurate engine speed signal may not be able to be obtained. Therefore, make sure to confirm that the SFI system is not malfunctioning before performing this procedure.

    For 8AR-FTS: Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2015 - ]

    For 2GR-FKS: Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [10/2017 - ]

    HINT: 

    The indicated value of the tachometer has an allowable range. Therefore, even when the combination meter assembly is not malfunctioning, the actual engine speed and the indicated value speed may not match.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      1. 750 to 850 rpm: Idling (shift lever in N, engine warmed up and A/C off)

      For 2GR-FKS 
      1. 600 to 700 rpm: Idling (shift lever in N, engine warmed up and A/C off)
      When the crankshaft position sensor is malfunctioning, "Engine Speed" is approximately 0 rpm or varies greatly from the actual engine speed.
