Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION 
    1. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [01/2012 - ] .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output A
      CAN communication DTC is output B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM (VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [01/2012 - ] .

      OK

      No DTCs are output.

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEEDOMETER) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select the Active Test. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [01/2012 - ] .
      COMBINATION METER

      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer 0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240 or 280 Perform the test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.
      Acceptable range (mph or km/h): [Control range → Speedometer display]

      • 40 mph → 39.5 to 42.5 mph
      • 80 mph → 80.5 to 84.5 mph
      • 120 mph → 120.5 to 126 mph
      for km/h
      • 40 mph → 38 to 42 km/h
      • 80 mph → 78 to 84 km/h
      • 120 mph → 121 to 125 km/h
      • 160 mph → 159 to 167 km/h
      • 200 mph → 199 to 209 km/h
      • 240 mph → 239 to 251 km/h

      HINT: 

      • Make sure that the vehicle is stopped and the engine is idling. The doors will be locked automatically when performing the speedometer Active Test. This is a normal function.
      • The displayed value has the same units (km/h, mph) as the main scale of the vehicle speedometer.
      • The needle position should be within the acceptable tolerance.

        OK

        Needle indication is normal.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select the Data List. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [01/2012 - ] .
      COMBINATION METER

      OK

      Vehicle speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as actual vehicle speed measured using speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (WHEEL SPEED SENSOR) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select the Data List. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [01/2012 - ] .
      ABS/VSC/TRAC

      RL Wheel Speed Wheel speed sensor RL reading/Min.: 0 (0), Max.: 326 (202) Actual wheel speed A similar speed is indicated on the speedometer.

      Wheel speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as actual wheel speed measured using speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).

  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [01/2012 - ] 
  7. Go to CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  PRECAUTION [01/2012 - ] 
  8. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [01/2012 - ] 
  9. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [01/2012 - ] 
  10. Go to VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  PRECAUTION [01/2012 - ] 
  11. Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [01/2012 - ]
