DTC B1820/55: Short in Side Squib RH Circuit; DTC B1821/55: Open in Side Squib RH Circuit; DTC B1822/55: Short to GND in Side Squib RH Circuit; DTC B1823/55: Short to B+ in Side Squib RH Circuit: Procedure

  1. CHECK FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY RH (FRONT SIDE SQUIB RH) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag RH.
    4. Connect the red wire side of SST (resistance: 2.1 Ω) to connector E.
      WARNING:

      Never connect the tester to the front seat airbag RH (front side squib RH) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.

      NOTE:
      • Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting SST.
      • Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.
      • SST: 09843-18061 
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2012 - ] .
    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    10. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2012 - ] .

      OK

      DTC B1820/55, B1821/55, B1822/55 or B1823/55 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1820/55, B1821/55, B1822/55 and B1823/55 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   8 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect SST from connector E.
    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly.
    5. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and front seat airbag RH side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The lock button is not disengaged, and the claw of the lock is not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FRONT SIDE SQUIB RH CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      c29-1 (SFR+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      c29-2 (SFR-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      c29-1 (SFR+) - c29-2 (SFR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [03/2012 - ] .
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      c29-1 (SFR+) - c29-2 (SFR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      c29-1 (SFR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      c29-2 (SFR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      *3 Floor Wire
      *4 Center Airbag Sensor Assembly
      *5 Connector E
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Front Side Squib RH)
    9. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector B to its original condition.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the connectors to the front seat airbag RH and center airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2012 - ] .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2012 - ] .

      OK

      DTC B1820/55, B1821/55, B1822/55 or B1823/55 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1820/55, B1821/55, B1822/55 and B1823/55 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

  5. CHECK FRONT SEAT WIRE RH 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      c29-1 (SFR+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      c29-2 (SFR-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    7. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector D. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [03/2012 - ] .

    9. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector D to its original condition.

    NG → REPLACE FRONT SEAT WIRE RH 

    OK → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

  6. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] 
  7. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [03/2012 - ] 
  8. REPLACE FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ]
