Tachometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check for the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication system DTC is not output A
      CAN communication system DTC is output B

    B → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (TACHOMETER) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test".
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Tachometer Operation Tachometer 0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 Confirm that vehicle is stopped and engine is idling

      OK

      Needle indication is normal.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPEED) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List".
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Engine RPM Engine speed / Min.: 0, Max.: 12750 Idling: 700 to 800 Unit: RPM

      OK

      Engine speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as actual engine speed.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   11 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPEED) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List".
      HYBRID CONTROL:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Engine Revolution Engine speed / Min.: 0, Max.: 16383.75 Idling: 700 to 800 Unit: RPM

      OK

      Engine speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the actual engine speed.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Temporarily replace the combination meter with a new one. Refer to DISASSEMBLY .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the operation of the tachometer returns to normal. Refer to OPERATION CHECK .

      OK

      Operation of tachometer returns to normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → END (COMBINATION METER IS DEFECTIVE) 

  7. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. Go to HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  9. Go to CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  PRECAUTION 
  10. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
