Front Passenger Side Seat Belt Warning Light Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION 
    1. Check the vehicle condition.

      Result

      w/ Occupant Classification System A
      w/o Occupant Classification System B

    B → See step   3 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR DTCS 
    1. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    2. Recheck for DTC.
    3. Proceed to the next step based on the inspection result.

      CAN communication system DTC output occurs C
      Airbag system DTC output occurs D
      Occupant classification system DTC output occurs E

    A: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT FUSE (ECU-IG RH) 
    1. Remove the ECU-IG RH fuse from the main body ECU RH (cowl side junction block RH).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ECU-IG RH fuse Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the steps on the display and select "Active Test".

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the J54 integration control and panel assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the J35 combination meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance and voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Standard Voltage 

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J54-13 (PBEW) - J35-3 (PBLT) Always Below 1 Ω
      J54-13 (PBEW) or J35-3 (PBLT) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J54-4 (IG+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the integration control and panel assembly with the connector still connected. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Apply battery voltage from the wire harness back side between the terminals of the indicator, and check the lighting condition of the front passenger side seat belt warning light.

      Standard

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery position(+) → Terminal J54-4(IG+)
      Battery position(-) → Terminal J54-13(PBEW)
      Front passenger side seat belt light comes on

    NG → See step   18 

    OK → See step   15 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLOCK ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the J98 clock assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the J35 combination meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance and voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J98-12 (PBEW) - J35-3 (PBLT) Always Below 1 Ω
      J98-12 (PBEW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      J35-3 (PBLT) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J98-15 (IG+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK CLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the clock assembly with the connector still connected. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Apply battery voltage from the wire harness back side between the terminals of the indicator, and check the lighting condition of the front passenger side seat belt warning light.

      Standard

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery position(+) → Terminal J98-15(IG+)
      Battery position(-) → Terminal J98-12(PBEW)
      Front passenger side seat belt light comes on

    NG → See step   13 

    OK → See step   19 

  9. REPLACE GATEWAY ECU 
    1. Replace the gateway ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK PASSENGER SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Check that the passenger seat belt warning light operates normally. Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION .

      OK

      The front passenger seat belt warning light normally operates.

    NG → See step   20 

    OK → END 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - FRONT SEAT INNER BELT RH - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the J35 combination meter connector.

    2. Disconnect the T3 front seat inner belt assembly RH connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J35-4 (P/SB) - T3-1 (WS+) Always Below 1 Ω
      J35-4 (P/SB) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      T3-4 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. INSPECT OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR (SEPARATE TYPE FRONT SEAT CUSHION PAD) 
    1. Remove the occupant detection sensor (separate type front seat cushion pad). Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A-1 - A-3 Front passenger seat occupied Below 100 Ω
      A-1 - A-3 Front passenger seat not occupied 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR (SEPARATE TYPE FRONT SEAT CUSHION PAD) 

    OK → See step   22 

  13. REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  14. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART). Refer to  FAIL-SAFE CHART 
  15. REPLACE COMBINATION METER. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  16. GO TO AIRBAG SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  17. GO TO OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  18. REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  19. REPLACE COMBINATION METER. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  20. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  21. GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  22. REPLACE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL
