Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      CAN communication DTC is not output. A
      CAN communication DTC is output. B

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical/Combination Meter/Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer 0, 40, 80, 120 mph*1 There is a deviation in the values displayed on the speedometer*1

      • 0 → 0
      • 40 → 38.4 to 43.3

      • 120 → 117.7 to 127.3
      0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 km/h*2 There is a deviation in the values displayed on the speedometer*2
      (Control range → Speedometer display)
      • 0 → 0
      • 40 → 37.6 to 44.2
      • 80 → 77.0 to 86.3
      • 120 → 116.8 to 128.2
      • 160 → 156.5 to 170.1
      • 200 → 196.3 to 212.0
      • *1: for U.S.A.
      • *2: except U.S.A.

      OK

      Speedometer indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a brake control system DTC is output. Refer to DTC CHECK/CLEAR .

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FR/FL/RR/RL WHEEL SPEED, VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. for ABS/VSC/TRAC: Chassis/ABS/VSC/TRAC/Data List.
      2. for Combination Meter: Body Electrical/Combination Meter/Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      ABS/VSC/TRAC

      COMBINATION METER

      OK

      When the Data List values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

      NG

      When the Data List values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output error of the skid control ECU or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → See step   8 

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or a known good one. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK → END 

  6. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  9. REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
