Fuel Receiver Gauge Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
CAN communication DTC is not output. A
CAN communication DTC is output. B

    B → See step   9

    A: Go to next step

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION)
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical/Combination Meter/Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
Fuel Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauge Empty, 1/2, Full Confirm that the vehicle is stopped with the power switch on (READY)

      OK

Fuel receiver gauge indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7

    OK: Go to next step

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT)
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical/Combination Meter/Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input signal/Min.: 0, Max.: 127.5 (L) Fuel receiver gauge indicates F: 49.1 (L) -
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/2: 28.3 (L)
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates E: 6.5 (L)

      OK

Fuel level signal displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as fuel receiver gauge indication.

    NG → See step   7

    OK: Go to next step

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY)
    1. Disconnect the F4 and L13 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F4-27 (L) - L13-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      F4-30 (FE) - L13-3 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
F4-27 (L) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
F4-30 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step

  5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Check that the float moves smoothly between F and E.
    3. Check if the fuel sender gauge arm is deformed.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Float level is F (upper) 13.5 to 16.5 Ω
      1 - 2 Float level is between F (upper) and E (lower) 13.5 to 414.5 Ω (Gradually changes)
      1 - 2 Float level is E (lower) 405.5 to 414.5 Ω
