DTC B1504: Lost Communication with Steering SW: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MULTI DISPLAY SELECT SWITCH) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical/Combination Meter/Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Multi Switch (Up) Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) up switch/OFF or ON OFF: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) up switch not pressed -
      ON: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) up switch pressed -
      Multi Switch (Down) Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) down switch/OFF or ON OFF: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) down switch not pressed -
      ON: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) down switch pressed -
      Multi Switch (Menu) Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) menu switch/OFF or ON OFF: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) menu switch not pressed -
      ON: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) menu switch pressed -
      Multi Switch (Enter) Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) enter switch/OFF or ON OFF: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) enter switch not pressed -
      ON: Multi-information switch (Steering pad switch assembly) enter switch pressed -

      OK

      Multi-information switch (steering pad switch assembly) condition displayed on the Techstream changes with the actual switch operation.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   5 

  2. CHECK SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Check the spiral cable. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F4 and z33 connectors.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z33-2 (IG) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 V
      Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z33-7 (DISP) - F4-38 (MSFM) Always Below 1 Ω
      F4-38 (MSFM) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. REPLACE MULTI-INFORMATION SWITCH (STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Replace the multi-information switch (steering pad switch assembly) with a new or a known good one. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      The operation of the combination meter assembly returns to normal.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → END 

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE. Refer to  REMOVAL
