Fuel Receiver Gauge Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output. A
      CAN communication DTC is output. B

    B → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Meter Operation Fuel receiver gauge Empty, 1/2, Full Confirm that the vehicle is stopped with the engine idling

      OK

      Fuel receiver gauge indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input signal/Min.: 0, Max.: 127.5 Current fuel level displayed Unit: Liter

      OK

      Fuel level signal displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as fuel receiver gauge indication.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F16 and P11 connectors.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F16-16 (FR) - P11-2 (S) Always Below 1 Ω
      F16-17 (FE) - P11-3 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
      F16-16 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F16-17 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      *2 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Fuel Sender Gauge Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Check that the float moves smoothly between F and E.
    3. Check if the fuel sender gauge arm is deformed.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Float level is F (upper) 13.5 to 16.5 Ω
      1 - 2 Float level is between F (upper) and E (lower) 13.5 to 414.5 Ω (Gradually changes)
      1 - 2 Float level is E (lower) 405.5 to 414.5 Ω

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FUEL SUCTION PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Visually check for deformation on the fuel suction pump and gauge assembly connector.

      OK

      There is no deformation.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → See step   7 

  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  10. REPLACE FUEL SUCTION PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
