Parking Brake Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. CHECK BRAKE WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Check that the brake warning light comes on when the parking brake is applied and goes off when it is released.

      OK

      The brake warning light operates as specified above.

    NG → See step   3 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARKING BRAKE SWITCH - DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY) 
    1. Disconnect the display and navigation module display connector.

    2. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      G4-17 (PKB) - A49-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      G4-17 (PKB) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Display and Navigation Module Display)
      *2 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Parking Brake Switch)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   4 

  3. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      A49-1 - Switch body ON (When shaft is not pressed) Below 1 Ω
      A49-1 - Switch body OFF (When shaft is pressed) 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  4. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
  5. REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL
