DTC B1660/43: Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction (08/2010 - 08/2011): Procedure

  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION

    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      HINT: 

      Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Always on A
      Off B

    B → See step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and the display and navigation module display.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the display and navigation module display.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and display and navigation module display side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

    1. Connect the connector to the display and navigation module display.
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    4. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK

      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR

    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the engine switch off.
    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   15 

    OK → See step   16 

  6. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT

    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the center airbag sensor and display and navigation module display.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F52-3 (ARON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      F52-4 (AIR) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    6. Turn the engine switch off.
    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F52-3 (ARON) - F52-4 (AIR) Always Below 1 Ω
    10. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    11. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F52-3 (ARON) - F52-4 (AIR) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      F52-3 (ARON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      F52-4 (AIR) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → See step   20 

  7. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE)

    1. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      FE4-13 (PAON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      FE4-12 (P-AB) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FE4-13 (PAON) - FE4-12 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FE4-13 (PAON) - FE4-12 (P-AB) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      FE4-13 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      FE4-12 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

  8. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and the display and navigation module display.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the display and navigation module display.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and display and navigation module display side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT

    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F52-3 (ARON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      F52-4 (AIR) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    3. Turn the engine switch off.
    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F52-3 (ARON) - F52-4 (AIR) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F52-3 (ARON) - F52-4 (AIR) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      F52-3 (ARON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      F52-4 (AIR) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR (SOURCE VOLTAGE)

    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F53-3 (IG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DISPLAY - BATTERY) OR BATTERY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connector to the display and navigation module display.
    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    6. Check the indicator according to the value(s) in the table below.

      OK

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator
      E47-23 (PAON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) "ON" comes on
      E47-17 (P-AB) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) "OFF" comes on

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR

    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    6. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    7. Turn the engine switch off.
    8. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    9. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   18 

    OK → See step   19 

  14. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE)

    1. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      FE4-13 (PAON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      FE4-12 (P-AB) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FE4-13 (PAON) - FE4-12 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FE4-13 (PAON) - FE4-12 (P-AB) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      FE4-13 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      FE4-12 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

  15. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  16. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  17. REPLACE DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  18. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  19. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  20. REPLACE DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY. Refer to  REMOVAL
