Speed Signal Circuit: Procedure

  1. INSPECT ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the F4 connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F4-40 (+S) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V

      (to Combination Meter Assembly)

      HINT: 

      If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplies power to the combination meter assembly, the combination meter assembly will output a waveform.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Reconnect the F4 connector.
    2. Disconnect the A60 connector.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A60-11 (SP1) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (to Skid Control ECU)

    NG → See step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (INPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Check the input waveform.

      1. Reconnect the A60 connector.
      2. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
      3. Connect an oscilloscope to terminal F4-39 (SI) and body ground.
      4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
      5. Turn a wheel slowly.
      6. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.

        OK

        The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        • When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.
        • The illustration shows when the vehicle speed is 20 km/h (12 mph)

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the F4 and A60 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A60-11 (SP1) - F4-39 (SI) Always Below 1 Ω
      A60-11 (SP1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   16 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the F96 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F4-40 (+S) - F96-53 Always Below 1 Ω
      F4-40 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Inspect for a short in the circuit that is connected to the junction block connector shown in the wiring diagram.

      HINT: 

      If voltage is not present, it is possible that an ECU or circuit has a malfunction. The malfunctioning ECU or circuit will be diagnosed in the following steps.

      1. Disconnect the junction block connector.
      2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Voltage

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        F96-64 - Body ground Always 4.5 to 14 V
        F96-24 - Body ground Always 4.5 to 14 V
        F96-33 - Body ground Always 4.5 to 14 V
        F96-34 - Body ground Always 4.5 to 14 V
        F96-54 - Body ground Always 4.5 to 14 V

        Result

        Result Proceed to
        Voltage is not present in one circuit. A
        Voltage is present in all the circuits. B

    B → REPLACE JUNCTION BLOCK 

    A: Go to next step 

  7. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit for which voltage was not present in step 6.

      Result

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F52 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F52-23 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   17 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F69*1 or F42*2 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F69-11 (SPD)*1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F42-2 (SPD)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      • *1: w/o Navigation System
      • *2: w/ Navigation System

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   20 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER, DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY) 
    1. Disconnect the F67*1 or F30*2 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F67-3 (SPD)*1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F30-18 (SPD)*2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  12. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit for which voltage was not present in step 6.

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A58 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A58-21 (SPDI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F38 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F38-19 (SPDP) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  15. REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  16. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  17. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  18. REPLACE WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  19. REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  20. REPLACE STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  21. REPLACE DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  22. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  23. REPLACE DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER). Refer to  REMOVAL
