DTC P0989: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor / Switch "E" Circuit Low; DTC P0990: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor / Switch "E" Circuit High (TO 08/2009): Procedure

  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0989 OR P0990) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      Only "P0990" is output A
      Only "P0989" is output B
      "P0989 or P0990" and other DTCs are output C

      HINT: 

      If a solenoid is stuck OFF, DTCs for several solenoids including the malfunctioning solenoid will be detected.

    C → See step   5 

    B → See step   4 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Remove the TCM.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      19 (TPS3) - Body ground (Valve body assembly) or other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      OK B
      NG A

    B → See step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY (ATF PRESSURE SWITCH NO. 3) 
    1. Remove the oil strainer assembly.
    2. Disconnect the connector from the ATF temperature sensor assembly.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 (TPS3) - Body ground (Valve body assembly) or other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → See step   6 

  4. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Remove the oil strainer assembly.
    2. Remove the TCM.

    3. Disconnect the connector from the ATF temperature sensor assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      19 (TPS3) TCM side - 1 (TPS3) sensor side Always Below 1 Ω
      1 (TPS3) sensor side - Body ground (Valve body assembly) or other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to TCM)
      *2 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to ATF Temperature Sensor Assembly)

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  6. REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. REPLACE ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Refer to REMOVAL .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. REPLACE TCM. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: / ECT / DTC / Clear.

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    4. Perform the monitor drive pattern. Refer to MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN .
    5. Enter the following menus: / ECT / DTC.
    6. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      Only "P0989" is output A
      No output B

    B → END

  10. REPLACE ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
