DTC C1711: Front Height Control Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction; DTC C1712: Front Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction; DTC C1713: Rear Height Control Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction; DTC C1714: Rear Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction (FROM 08/2009): Procedure

  1. INSPECT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR 
    1. Check the front height control sensor:
      1. Disconnect the height control sensor front RH connector or height control sensor front LH connector.
        NOTE:

        Do not drop the height control sensor. If it is dropped, replace it with a new one.

      2. Connect 3 1.5 V dry cell batteries in series.
      3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 (SHB) of the height control sensor and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 (SHG). While applying 4.5 V, slowly moving the sensor's link up and down, and measure the voltage between terminal 2 (SHFR*1 or SHFL*2) and terminal 1 (SHG).

        HINT: 

        *1: for RH

        *2: for LH

        Standard voltage

        2 (SHFR) - 1 (SHG) Max. HI 3.95 to 4.15 V
        Normal 2.15 to 2.35 V
        Min. LO 0.35 to 0.55 V

        2 (SHFL) - 1 (SHG) Max. HI 3.95 to 4.15 V
        Normal 2.15 to 2.35 V
        Min. LO 0.35 to 0.55 V

        NOTE:

        Do not apply a voltage of more than 6 V.

    2. Check the rear height control sensor:
      1. Disconnect the height control sensor rear RH connector or height control sensor rear LH connector.
        NOTE:

        Do not drop the height control sensor. If it is dropped, replace it with a new one.

      2. Connect 3 1.5 V dry cell batteries in series.
      3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 (SHB) of the height control sensor and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 (SHG). While applying 4.5 V, slowly moving the sensor's link up and down, and measure the voltage between terminal 2 (SHRR*1 or SHRL*2) and terminal 1 (SHG).

        HINT: 

        *1: for RH

        *2: for LH

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR - SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Check the height control sensor front RH side: (C1711)
      1. Turn the engine switch off.
      2. Disconnect the A55 ECU connectors.
      3. Disconnect the A39 sensor connector.
      4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        A39-1 (SHG) - A55-12 (SHG1) Always Below 1 Ω
        A39-2 (SHFR) - A55-20 (SHFR) Always Below 1 Ω
        A39-3 (SHB) - A55-13 (SHB1) Always Below 1 Ω
        A55-12 (SHG1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A55-20 (SHFR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A55-13 (SHB1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

        (to Suspension Control ECU)
    2. Check the height control sensor front LH side: (C1712)
      1. Turn the engine switch off.
      2. Disconnect the A55 ECU connectors.
      3. Disconnect the A38 sensor connector.
      4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance

        A38-1 (SHG) - A55-11 (SHG2) Always Below 1 Ω
        A38-2 (SHFL) - A55-24 (SHFL) Always Below 1 Ω
        A38-3 (SHB) - A55-14 (SHB2) Always Below 1 Ω
        A55-11 (SHG2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A55-24 (SHFL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A55-14 (SHB2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    3. Check the height control sensor rear RH side: (C1713)
      1. Turn the engine switch off.
      2. Disconnect the A54 ECU connector.
      3. Disconnect the R4 sensor connector.
      4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance

        R4-1 (SHG) - A54-15 (SHG3) Always Below 1 Ω
        R4-2 (SHRR) - A54-24 (SHRR) Always Below 1 Ω
        R4-3 (SHB) - A54-14 (SHB3) Always Below 1 Ω
        A54-15 (SHG3) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A54-24 (SHRR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A54-14 (SHB3) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Check the height control sensor rear LH side: (C1714)
      1. Turn the engine switch off.
      2. Disconnect the A54 ECU connector.
      3. Disconnect the R2 sensor connector.
      4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        R2-1 (SHG) - A54-16 (SHG4) Always Below 1 Ω
        R2-2 (SHRL) - A54-26 (SHRL) Always Below 1 Ω
        R2-3 (SHB) - A54-13 (SHB4) Always Below 1 Ω
        A54-16 (SHG4) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A54-26 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A54-13 (SHB4) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   3 

  3. REPLACE SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  4. REPLACE HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR FRONT RH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  5. REPLACE HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR FRONT LH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. REPLACE HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR REAR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. REPLACE HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR REAR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL
