DTC B1660/43: Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction (2010 To 08/2009): Procedure

  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      HINT: 

      Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      ON/OFF Indicator Illumination Proceed to
      Always ON A

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and radio receiver assembly*1 or accessory meter assembly*2. Also check that the connectors that link the instrument panel wire and No. 2 instrument panel wire are properly connected.
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/o Navigation System

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to 3 the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and radio receiver assembly*1 or accessory meter assembly*2. Also disconnect the connectors that link the instrument panel wire and No. 2 instrument panel wire.
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/o Navigation System
    5. Check that the terminals of connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Connect the connectors that link the instrument panel wire and No. 2 instrument panel wire.

    2. Connect the connector to the radio receiver assembly*1 or accessory meter assembly*2.
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/o Navigation System
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    5. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK

      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the engine switch off.
    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660/43 is not output.

      HINT:

  5. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (OPEN) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Disconnect the connector from the radio receiver assembly*1 or accessory meter assembly*2.
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/o Navigation System
    4. Using SST, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

      • SST: 09843-18040 
    5. w/ Navigation System:

      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  8. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

      1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  9. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and radio receiver assembly*1 or accessory meter assembly*2. Also check that the connectors that link the instrument panel wire and No. 2 instrument panel wire are properly connected.
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/o Navigation System

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to 10 the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and radio receiver assembly*1 or accessory meter assembly*2. Also disconnect the connectors that link the instrument panel wire and No. 2 instrument panel wire.
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/o Navigation System
    5. Check that the terminals of connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (OPEN) 
    1. Connect the connectors that link the instrument panel wire and No. 2 instrument panel wire.
    2. Using SST, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

      • SST: 09843-18040

  15. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Connect the connector to the radio receiver assembly*1 or accessory meter assembly*2.
      • *1: w/ Navigation System
      • *2: w/o Navigation System
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    6. Check the indicator according to the conditions in the table below.

    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    7. Turn the engine switch off.
    8. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    9. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660/43 is not output.

  17. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  18. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  19. REPLACE ACCESSORY METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  20. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the instrument panel wire from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.

      HINT: 

      SST has already been inserted into connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  23. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Disconnect the instrument panel wire from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

  24. REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
