DTC B241A: Rear Height Control Sensor (From 08/2009): Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    2. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B241A is not output.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   15 

  2. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION 
    1. Check the vehicle condition.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      w/o Air Suspension System A
      w/ Air Suspension System B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / AFS / Data List.
    5. Read the display on the Techstream.
      AFS

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Height Sens Pw Supply Val Rear height control sensor power supply value / 0 to 6.25 V Approx. 5.0 V -
      Rr Height Sens Signal Val Rear height control sensor signal value / 0 to 5 V Approx. 2.5 V (When the vehicle is level) Value is changed according to vehicle height

      OK

      Normal conditions listed above are displayed.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Connect 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.

    2. Remove the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH. Refer to COMPONENTS .
    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 (SHB) and a negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 1 (SHG).
    4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 (SHRR) and 1 (SHG) while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHRR) - 1 (SHG) +45° (High) 4.05 V
      0° (Normal) 2.25 V
      -45° (Low) 0.45 V

    NG → See step   12 

    OK → See step   13 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH) 
    1. Disconnect the A53 AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) connector.

    2. Disconnect the R4 rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A53-18 (SBR) - R4-3 (SHB) Always Below 1 Ω
      A53-19 (SHRL) - R4-2 (SHRR) Always Below 1 Ω
      A53-21 (SGR) - R4-1 (SHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      A53-18 (SBR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A53-19 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A53-21 (SGR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      *2 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to AFS ECU (Headlight Swivel ECU Assembly))

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Connect 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.

    2. Remove the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH. Refer to COMPONENTS .
    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 (SHB) and a negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 1 (SHG).
    4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 (SHRR) and 1 (SHG) while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHRR) - 1 (SHG) +45° (High) 4.05 V
      0° (Normal) 2.25 V
      -45° (Low) 0.45 V

    OK → See step   13 

  7. CHECK FOR DTC (AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM) 
    1. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC "C1714 Rear Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction" is not output.

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / AFS / Data List.
    5. Read the display on the Techstream.
      AFS

  9. REPLACE SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU 
    1. Temporarily replace the suspension control ECU with a new or normally functioning one. Refer to COMPONENTS .
    2. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B2416 is not output.

    NG → See step   13 

    OK → END 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU - AFS ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the A53 AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) connector.

    2. Disconnect the A54 and A55 suspension control ECU connectors.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A53-18 (SBR) - A55-22 (SHB5) Always Below 1 Ω
      A53-19 (SHRL) - A54-27 (SHR2) Always Below 1 Ω
      A53-21 (SGR) - A55-21 (SHG5) Always Below 1 Ω
      A53-18 (SBR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A53-19 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A53-21 (SGR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. REPLACE SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU 
    1. Temporarily replace the suspension control ECU with a new or normally functioning one. Refer to COMPONENTS .
    2. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B2416 is not output.

    NG → See step   13 

    OK → END 

  12. REPLACE REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  13. REPLACE AFS ECU (HEADLIGHT SWIVEL ECU ASSEMBLY). Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  14. GO TO AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. Refer to  DTC C1711: Front Height Control Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction; DTC C1712: Front Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction; DTC C1713: Rear Height Control Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction; DTC C1714: Rear Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction 
  15. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
