HI-beam Headlight does not Illuminate: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH) 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List.
      MAIN BODY

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Head Light SW (HEAD) Headlight switch signal (Head) /ON or OFF ON: Headlight switch (Head) on
      OFF: Headlight switch off
      -

      OK

      When the headlight dimmer switch operation is performed, the result will be the same as above.

    NG → See step   3 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (HEADLIGHT) 
    1. Using the Techstream, perform the Active Test.
      MAIN BODY

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Head Light Hi Headlight (Hi) OFF/ON -

      OK

      Headlight hi beam turns on/off.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU 

  3. INSPECT HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH 
    1. Remove the headlight dimmer switch. Refer to INSPECTION .

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      18 (T) - 12 (EL) Headlight dimmer switch (Light control switch) head Below 1 Ω
      20 (H) - 12 (EL)
      17 (HF) - 12 (EL) Headlight dimmer switch (Light control switch) flash
      11 (HU) - 12 (EL)
      11 (HU) - 12 (EL) Headlight dimmer switch (Light control switch) high
      18 (T) - 12 (EL) Headlight dimmer switch (Light control switch) off 10 kΩ or higher
      20 (H) - 12 (EL)

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH - MAIN BODY ECU AND BODY GROUND)

    1. Disconnect the E14 switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the E1, E2 and 2D ECU connectors.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E2-17 (HEAD) - E14-20 (H) Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-23 (TAIL) - E14-18 (T)
      E1-13 (HF) - E14-17 (HF)
      2D-13 (HU) - E14-11 (HU)
      E14-12 (EL) - Body ground
      E2-17 (HEAD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E1-23 (TAIL) - Body ground
      E1-13 (HF) - Body ground
      2D-13 (HU) - Body ground

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT RELAY (HEAD HI) - BATTERY) 
    1. Remove the headlight relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      HEAD HI relay terminal 2 - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      HEAD HI relay terminal 3 - Body ground

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      DRL No, 3 or RR A/C relay terminal 1 - Body ground Light control switch head, dimmer switch low 11 to 14 V
      Light control switch OFF Below 1 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      DRL No, 3 or RR A/C relay terminal 2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DRL NO. 4 RELAY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      DRL No. 4 relay terminal 1 - Body ground Light control switch head, dimmer switch low 11 to 14 V
      Light control switch OFF Below 1 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      DRL No. 4 relay terminal 2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT HEADLIGHT RELAY (HEAD HI) 
    1. Remove the headlight relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 5 Battery voltage not applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      Battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE HEADLIGHT RELAY (HEAD HI) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY 
    1. Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 5 Battery voltage not applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      Battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
      3 - 4 Battery voltage not applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
      Battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. INSPECT DRL NO. 4 RELAY 
    1. Remove the DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 5 Battery voltage not applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      Battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE DRL NO. 4 RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEAD HI RELAY - DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY AND DRL NO. 4 RELAY)

    1. Remove the headlight relay, DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay and DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      HEAD HI relay terminal 5 - DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay terminal 5 Always Below 1 Ω
      DRL No. 3 or RR A/C Relay terminal 3 - DRL No. 4 Relay terminal 5
      HEAD HI relay terminal 5 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEAD HI RELAY - DRL NO. 4 RELAY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the headlight relay and DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      HEAD HI relay terminal 5 - DRL No. 4 relay terminal 5 Always Below 1 Ω
      DRL No. 4 relay terminal 3 - Body ground
      HEAD HI relay terminal 5 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY - DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RESISTOR)

    1. Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay terminal 4 - A33-1 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      A33-1 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RESISTOR - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A33-2 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEAD HI RELAY - MAIN BODY ECU)

    1. Remove the headlight relay from the engine room relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      HEAD HI relay terminal 1 - 2B-16 (DRL)*1 Always Below 1 Ω
      HEAD HI relay terminal 1 - 2B-16 (DIM)*2 Always Below 1 Ω
      HEAD HI relay terminal 1 - Body Ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      • *1: for U.S.A.
      • *2: for except U.S.A.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK MAIN BODY ECU 
    1. Temporarily replace the main body ECU with a new or normally functioning one.
    2. Check that the headlight high beam illuminates.

      OK

      Headlight high beam illuminates

    NG → See step   18 

    OK → END (MAIN BODY ECU IS DEFECTIVE) 

  17. REPLACE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  18. REPLACE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RESISTOR. Refer to  REMOVAL
