DTC P3245-203: Short in Inverter Circuit: Procedure

  1. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (MG1) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Remove the service plug grip. Refer to PRECAUTION .
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY) unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the generator cable and motor cable from the inverter with converter assembly.

      HINT: 

      For the removal and installation procedures related to the generator cable and motor cable. Refer to COMPONENTS .

    3. Check MG1 for an interphase short using a milliohmmeter.

      1. Using a milliohmmeter, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        HINT: 

        If the MG1 temperature is high, the resistance will vary greatly from the specification. Therefore, measure the resistance at least 8 hours after the vehicle is stopped.

        Standard resistance

        Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
        U - V Power switch off 32.4 to 35.8 mΩ
        V - W Power switch off 31.3 to 34.6 mΩ
        W - U Power switch off 31.4 to 34.7 mΩ

        HINT: 

        • To correct the variation of the measured resistance due to temperature, use the following formula to calculate the resistance at 68° F (20°C).
          • R20 = Rt / {1 + 0.00393 X (T - 20)}
        • The calculation is based on the following:
          • R20: Resistance at 68° F (20°C) (mΩ)
          • Rt: Measured resistance (mΩ)
          • T: Temperature when the resistance is measured (°C)
    4. Using a megohmmeter set to 500 V, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
      NOTE:

      Be sure to set the megohmmeter to 500 V when performing this test. Using a setting higher than 500 V can result in damage to the component being inspected.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      U - Body ground and shielded wire ground Power switch off 100 MΩ or higher
      V - Body ground and shielded wire ground Power switch off 100 MΩ or higher
      W - Body ground and shielded wire ground Power switch off 100 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   3 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the inverter with converter assembly. Refer to COMPONENTS .

    NEXT → See step   8 

  3. CHECK GENERATOR CABLE. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 19 

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly. Refer to COMPONENTS .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the inverter with converter assembly. Refer to COMPONENTS .

    NEXT → See step   8 

  6. REPLACE GENERATOR CABLE 
    1. Replace the generator cable. Refer to COMPONENTS .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  7. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the inverter with converter assembly. Refer to COMPONENTS .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Check the other DTCs that were output together with DTC P3245-203.
      DTC No. Relevant Diagnosis
      P0A7A-122, 130, 322, 324, 325, 517, 518, 809, 810, 811 Generator Inverter Performance
      NOTE:

      DTC P3245-203 is stored after any of DTCs P0A7A-122, 130, 322, 324, 325, 517, 518, 809, 810, and 811 are stored. After troubleshooting and repairing DTC P3245-203, be sure to troubleshoot all the other DTCs.
