DTC P3107-214: Airbag ECU Communication Circuit Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (AIRBAG) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Body Electrical / SRS Airbag / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Airbag system DTCs are not output. A
      Airbag system DTCs are output. B

    B → See step   11 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU (CHECK WAVEFORM) 
    1. Connect an oscilloscope to the airbag ECU assembly terminals specified in the table below, and measure the waveform.

      Item Contents
      Terminal L73-14 (GSW2) - L73-25 (E1)
      Equipment Setting 5 V/DIV., 500 ms./DIV.
      Condition Power switch on (READY)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The waveform appears as shown in the illustration. A
      The waveform differs from the one shown in the illustration. B

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CLEAR DTC (HV) 
    1. Select the following menu items: Body Electrical / SRS Airbag / Trouble Codes.
    2. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    3. Select the following menu items: Body Electrical / SRS Airbag / Trouble Codes.
    4. Clear DTCs.
    5. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    6. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    7. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    8. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    2. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P3107-214 is not output. A
      P3107-214 is output again. B

    B → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
    1. Check for intermittent problems. Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS .

    YES → REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

    NO → See step   9 

  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION 
    1. Check the connections of the hybrid vehicle control ECU and airbag ECU assembly connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect connector A76 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    3. Disconnect connector L73 from the airbag ECU assembly.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A76-31 (ABFS) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU and airbag ECU assembly connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A76-31 (ABFS) - L73-14 (GSW2) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A76-31 (ABFS) or L73-14 (GSW2) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Turn the power switch off.

    2. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      L73-14 (GSW2) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → See step   9 

    OK → See step   10 

  9. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  10. REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  11. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
