DTC P0722-854: Output Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect connector E55 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E55-29 (SP2+) - E55-28 (SP2-) Approximately -22°F (-30°C) 450 to 546 Ω
      (Reference)
      Approximately 68°F (20°C) 560 to 680 Ω
      Approximately 176°F (80°C) 692 to 840 Ω
      (Reference)

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU (CHECK WAVEFORM) 
    1. Connect connector E55 to the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    2. Connect an oscilloscope to the hybrid vehicle control ECU terminals specified in the following table, and measure the waveform.

      Item Contents
      Terminal E55-28 (SP2-) - E55-29 (SP2+)
      Equipment Setting 2 V/DIV., 2 ms./DIV.
      Condition Driving at approximately 34 mph (55 km/h)

      HINT: 

      The higher the vehicle speed, the shorter the cycle and higher the voltage.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
    1. Check for intermittent problems. Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS .

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

    OK → See step   8 

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connection of the transmission revolution sensor (SP2) connector.

      OK

      The connector is connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission revolution sensor (SP2) connector.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E55-28 (SP2-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      E55-29 (SP2+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E55-28 (SP2-) - E63-1 Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      E55-29 (SP2+) - E63-2 Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E55-28 (SP2-) or E63-1 - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E55-29 (SP2+) or E63-2 - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      HINT: 

      The transmission revolution sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  7. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS
