DTC P0338-885: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit High Input: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Engine control system DTCs are not output. A
      Engine control system DTCs are output. B

    B → See step   10 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (ECM CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the ECM connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU (CHECK WAVEFORM) 
    1. Connect an oscilloscope to the hybrid vehicle control ECU terminals specified in the table below, and measure the waveform.

      Equipment Setting 5 V/DIV., 1 ms./DIV.
      Condition Power switch on (READY) with engine running

      Result

      Waveform is flat, and is stuck on the +B side. B
      Waveform is flat, and is stuck on the GND side. C

    C → See step   7 

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
    1. Check for intermittent problems. Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS .

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

    OK → See step   12 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - ECM) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect connector A75 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Disconnect connector A14 from the ECM.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A75-13 (NEI) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the ECM and hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A75-13 (NEI) - A14-27 (NEO1) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   11 

  7. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect connector A14 from the ECM.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A14-27 (NEO1) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the ECM connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK ECM 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Connect connector A14 to the ECM.
    3. Disconnect connector A75 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A75-13 (NEI) - A75-7 (E1) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect connector A14 from the ECM.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A75-13 (NEI) or A14-27 (NEO1) - Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   12 

  10. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  11. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  12. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS
