DTC B253B: Back Window Panel Lock Switch Abnormal Operation: Procedure
- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (BACK WINDOW PANEL LOCK SW)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG).
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Retractable Hardtop / Data List.
- Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.RETRACTABLE HARDTOP (SLIDING ROOF CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY)
Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note Back Window Panel Lock SW Roof rear lock switch signal/ON or OFF ON: Roof rear lock switch on (back window lock locked)
OFF: Roof rear lock switch off (back window panel not fully closed)- OK
The Techstream display changes according to condition as shown in the table.

OK → REPLACE SLIDING ROOF CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY
- CHECK BACK WINDOW LOCK ASSEMBLY (ROOF REAR LOCK SWITCH)
- Check that the wire harness of the roof rear lock switch has not been pinched by the body.
- Disconnect the f2 connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
HINT:
Check that the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly does not stick or bind when it is rotated.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 (R3LL) - 4 (R3LE) Sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (roof rear lock motor) rotates counterclockwise 10 kΩ or higher 3 (R3LL) - 4 (R3LE) Sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (roof rear lock motor) rotates clockwise Below 1 Ω 3 (R3LL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*1 Component without harness connected

NG → REPLACE BACK WINDOW LOCK ASSEMBLY (ROOF REAR LOCK SWITCH)
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BACK WINDOW LOCK ASSEMBLY - SLIDING ROOF CONTROL ECU)
- Disconnect the f2 and Q35 connectors.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition f2-3 (R3LL) - Q35-17 (R3LL) Always Below 1 Ω f2-3 (R3LL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher f2-4 (R3LE) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*1 Front view of wire harness connector

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT BACK WINDOW LOCK ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the f1 and f2 connectors.
- Apply battery voltage to the motor and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.NOTE:
Disconnect the battery immediately after the back window lock operation stops.
HINT:
Apply battery voltage to the motor and measure the resistance when the motor stops rotating.
