DTC B2416: Height Control Sensor Malfunction: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / AFS / Data List.
    5. Read the display on the Techstream.
      AFS (AFS ECU)

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fr Height Sens Front height sensor signal value / 0 to 5 V 0.5 to 4.5 V -
      Rr Height Sens Rear height sensor signal value / 0 to 5 V 0.5 to 4.5 V -

      OK

      Condition sign can be displayed.

  2. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A17 front height control sensor sub-assembly LH connector.

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Front Height Control Sensor Sub-Assembly LH)
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A17-1 (SHG) - A17-3 (SHB) Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the Y2 rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH connector.

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-Assembly LH)
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Y2-1 (SHG) - Y2-3 (SHB) Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH) 
    1. Disconnect the A28 AFS ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-2 (SHFL) - A17-2 (SHFL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-2 (SHFL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH) 
    1. Disconnect the Y2 rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH connector.

    2. Disconnect the A27 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A27-9 (SHRL) - Y2-2 (SHRL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A27-9 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Connect 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.

      *1 Component without harness connected
      (Front Height Control Sensor Sub-Assembly LH)
    2. Remove the front height control sensor sub-assembly LH.
    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the batteries to terminal 3 and a negative (-) lead from the batteries to terminal 1.
    4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 and 1 while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHFL) - 1 (SHG) +45° Approx. 4.5 V
      2 (SHFL) - 1 (SHG) 0° (Normal) Approx. 2.5 V
      2 (SHFL) - 1 (SHG) -45° (Low) Approx. 0.5 V

    NG → See step   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Connect 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.

      *1 Component without harness connected
      (Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-Assembly LH)
    2. Remove the rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH.
    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the batteries to terminal 3 and a negative (-) lead from the batteries to terminal 1.
    4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 and 1 while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHRL) - 1 (SHG) +45° Approx. 4.5 V
      2 (SHRL) - 1 (SHG) 0° (Normal) Approx. 2.5 V
      2 (SHRL) - 1 (SHG) -45° (Low) Approx. 0.5 V

    NG → See step   14 

    OK → See step   9 

  9. REPLACE AFS ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH) 
    1. Disconnect the A17 front height control sensor sub-assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the A28 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-1 (SBF) - A17-3 (SHB) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-2 (SHFL) - A17-2 (SHFL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-17 (SGF) - A17-1 (SHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-1 (SBF) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-2 (SHFL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-17 (SGF) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH) 

    OK → See step   15 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH) 
    1. Disconnect the Y2 rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH connector.

    2. Disconnect the A27 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A27-10 (SBR) - Y2-3 (SHB) Always Below 1 Ω
      A27-9 (SHRL) - Y2-2 (SHRL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A27-20 (SGR) - Y2-1 (SHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      A27-10 (SBR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-9 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-20 (SGR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH) 

    OK → See step   16 

  12. REPLACE AFS ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  13. REPLACE FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  14. REPLACE REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  15. REPLACE AFS ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  16. REPLACE AFS ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS
