DTC P0A38-257: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A39-259: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMP NO2) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -58°F (-50°C) A
      401°F (205°C) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    C → See step   9 

    B → See step   5 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect connector C23 from the generator temperature sensor.

    2. Connect terminals 4 (GMT) and 9 (GMTG) of connector C23 of the generator temperature sensor.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      401°F (205°C)

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Generator Temperature Sensor)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Connect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   8 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect connector C23 from the generator temperature sensor.
    2. Disconnect connector A58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C23-4 (GMT) - A58-99 (GMT) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      C23-9 (GMTG) - A58-79 (GMTG) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C23-4 (GMT) or A58-99 (GMT) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      C23-9 (GMTG) or A58-79 (GMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect connector C23 from the generator temperature sensor.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Power switch on (IG) -58°F (-50°C)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   8 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect connector C23 from the generator temperature sensor.
    2. Disconnect connector A58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  7. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to COMPONENTS 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to COMPONENTS 
  9. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
