DTC P0A09-591: DC / DC Converter Status Circuit Low Input: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0A09-591 is output only. A
      DTC P0AE6-225 is also output. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   10 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONVERTER CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU (CHECK WAVEFORM) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Using an oscilloscope, measure the waveform.

      Item Content
      Terminal z17-3 (VLO) - Body ground
      Equipment Setting 5 V/DIV., 50 ms/DIV.
      Condition Power switch on (IG)
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Component with harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Converter)

      OK

      The waveform appears as shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      • Perform this inspection with the hybrid vehicle converter connector connected.
      • The cycle will vary depending on the specified voltage of the hybrid vehicle converter (DC/DC converter).
    3. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0A09-591 is not output. A
      DTC P0A09-591 is output again. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   12 

    A: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
    1. Check for intermittent problems. Refer toCHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS .

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

    OK → See step   12 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect connector A58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Disconnect connector z17 from the hybrid vehicle converter.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-62 (VLO) - z17-3 (VLO) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-62 (VLO) or z17-3 (VLO) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
      *2 Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Converter)
    5. Connect the hybrid vehicle converter connector.
    6. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect connector z17 from the hybrid vehicle converter.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z17-3 (VLO) - Body ground Power switch off 370 to 430 kΩ

      *1 Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Converter)
    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle converter connector.

    NG → See step   12 

    OK → See step   11 

  10. GO TO DTC CHART (P0AE6-225). Refer to DTC P0AE6-225: Hybrid Battery Precharge Contactor Control Circuit Low 
  11. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONVERTER. Refer to COMPONENTS 
  12. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to COMPONENTS
