DTC P0851-579: Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit Low; DTC P0852-580: Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit High: Procedure

  1. INSPECT P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect connector F1 from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F1-4 (S) - F1-2 (E) Switch pressed 680 Ω
      F1-4 (S) - F1-2 (E) Switch released 4580 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Component without harness connected
      (P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch))

      HINT: 

      Terminals No. 1 and No. 8 on the component side connector are empty.

    3. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.

    NG → REPLACE P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - P POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect connector A58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    2. Disconnect connector from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-63 (P1) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
      *2 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch))
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-63 (P1) - F1-4 (S) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-63 (P1) or F1-4 (S) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    7. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.
    8. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (P POSITION SWITCH - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector from the P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F1-2 (E) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch))
    3. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   4 

  4. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to COMPONENTS
