DTC P0851-579: Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit Low; DTC P0852-580: Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit High: Procedure
- INSPECT P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH)
- Disconnect connector F1 from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

(P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch))HINT:
Terminals No. 1 and No. 8 on the component side connector are empty.
- Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.
NG → REPLACE P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH)
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - P POSITION SWITCH)
- Disconnect connector A58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
- Disconnect connector from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
- Turn the power switch on (IG).
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.Fig 2: Identifying A58 Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU & F1 P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch) Connectors

(to P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch))NOTE:Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
- Turn the power switch off.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition A58-63 (P1) - F1-4 (S) Power switch off Below 1 Ω Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition A58-63 (P1) or F1-4 (S) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher - Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.
- Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (P POSITION SWITCH - BODY GROUND)
- Disconnect connector from the P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch).
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
