DTC P0516-769: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0517-770: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the battery thermometer sensor connector.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect connector M14 from the battery thermometer sensor.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M14-1 (THB) - M14-2 (E2) 32°F (0°C) 5.0 to 5.3 kΩ
      68°F (20°C) 2.3 to 2.5 kΩ
      104°F (40°C) 1.1 to 1.3 kΩ
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Component without harness connected
      (Battery Thermometer Sensor)
    3. Connect the battery thermometer sensor connector.

    NG → REPLACE BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect connector M14 from the battery thermometer sensor.
    2. Disconnect connector A58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-83 (THB) - M14-1 (THB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      A58-84 (EIB) - M14-2 (E2) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-83 (THB) or M14-1 (THB) - Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or more
      A58-84 (EIB) or M14-2 (E2) - Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or more
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A58-83 (THB) or M14-1 (THB) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Connect the battery thermometer sensor connector.
    8. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
    1. Check for intermittent problems. Refer toCHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS .

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

    OK → See step   6 

  6. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to COMPONENTS
