DTC B2417: Headlight Beam Level Control Motor LH Malfunction; DTC B2418: Headlight Beam Level Control Motor RH Malfunction: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Select the item below in the ACTIVE TEST and then check the motor operation.
      AFS (AFS ECU)

      Item Test Details Diagnostic Note
      Drive The Leveling Motor Drive the leveling motor UP / OFF (OFF) -
      Drive The Leveling Motor Drive the leveling motor DOWN / OFF (OFF) -

      OK

      Headlight beam leveling control actuator is operated.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      OK (When checking from PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE) A
      OK (When checking from DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART) B
      NG C

    C → See step   2 

    B → REPLACE AFS ECU 

    A → PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

  2. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL MOTOR - AFS ECU)

    1. Disconnect the B11 and B2 headlight assembly connectors.
    2. Disconnect the A28 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      LH SIDE (B2417)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-29 - B11-15 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-30 - B11-14 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-31 - B11-13 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-32 - B11-12 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-29 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-30 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-31 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-32 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      RH Side (B2418)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-13 - B2-15 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-14 - B2-14 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-15 - B2-13 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-16 - B2-12 Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-13 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-14 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-15 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-16 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT HEADLIGHT LEVELING MOTOR (LH or RH) 
    1. Measure the resistance of the connector.

      Standard resistance

      RH SIDE (B2418)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Always 5.8 to 12.5 Ω
      3 - 4 Always 5.8 to 12.5 Ω
      LH SIDE (B2417)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Always 5.8 to 12.5 Ω
      3 - 4 Always 5.8 to 12.5 Ω

      Result

      OK (When checking from PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE) B
      NG C

    C → REPLACE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY LH OR HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY RH 

    B → PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    A → REPLACE AFS ECU
