DTC B2416: Height Control Sensor Malfunction: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Select the items below in the DATA LIST, and read the displays on the Techstream.
      AFS (AFS ECU)

    B → REPLACE AFS ECU 

    A → PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

  2. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A20 or q4 height control sensor connector.

    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage

      2GR-FSE 

      1UR-FSE 

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A20-1 - A20-3 Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      q4-1 - q4-3 Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the o2 height control sensor connector.

    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      o2-1 - o2-3 Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (AFS ECU - HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR FRONT) 
    1. Disconnect the A28 AFS ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance

      2GR-FSE 

      1UR-FSE 

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-2 (SHFL) - A20-2 (SHFL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-2 (SHFL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-2 (SHFL) - q4-2 (SHFL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-2 (SHFL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (AFS ECU - HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR REAR) 
    1. Disconnect the o2 sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the A29 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A29-9 (SHRL) - o2-2 (SHRL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A29-9 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR (FRONT LH) 
    1. Connect the 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.

    2. Remove the height control sensor assembly front.
    3. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 1.
    4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 and 1 while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHFL) - 1 (SHG) +45° Approx. 4.5 V
      2 (SHFL) - 1 (SHG) 0° (Normal) Approx. 2.5 V
      2 (SHFL) - 1 (SHG) -45° (Low) Approx. 0.5 V

    NG → REPLACE HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR (FRONT LH) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR (REAR LH) 
    1. Connect the 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.

    2. Remove the height control sensor assembly rear.
    3. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 1.
    4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 and 1 while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHRL) - 1 (SHG) +45° Approx. 4.5 V
      2 (SHRL) - 1 (SHG) 0° (Normal) Approx. 2.5 V
      2 (SHRL) - 1 (SHG) -45° (Low) Approx. 0.5 V

      Result

      NG C

    C → REPLACE HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR (REAR LH) 

    B → PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    A → REPLACE AFS ECU 

  8. CHECK AFS ECU 
    1. Measure the voltage of the connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-1 (SBF) - A28-17 (SGF) Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

    B → REPLACE AFS ECU 

    A → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR FRONT) 

  9. CHECK AFS ECU 
    1. Measure the voltage of the connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A29-10 (SBR) - A29-20 (SGR) Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V
