DTC B2414: Steering Position Sensor Malfunction: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Select the items below in the DATA LIST, and read the displays on the Techstream.
      AFS (AFS ECU)

      -384°to 382.5°
      Approx. 0°
      (When steering wheel is straight)

      OK

      Condition sign can be displayed.

      Result

      OK (When checking from PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE) A
      OK (When checking from DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART) B
      NG C

    C → See step   2 

    B → REPLACE AFS ECU 

    A → PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

  2. CHECK DTC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM) 
    1. Check the DTC of vehicle stability control system.

      OK

      Normal system code is output.

    NG → GO TO  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION 
    1. Check vehicle condition.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      w/o Variable Steering Gear Ratio Control A
      w/ Variable Steering Gear Ratio Control B

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (STEERING SENSOR - AFS ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the K19 steering sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the A29 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K19-7 (SS1-) - A29-8 (SS-) Always Below 1 Ω
      K19-8 (SS1+) - A29-7 (SS+) Always Below 1 Ω
      A29-8 (SS-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A29-7 (SS+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK AFS ECU 
    1. Reconnect the K19 steering sensor connector.

    2. Reconnect the A29 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the voltage of the connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A29-7 (SS+) - A29-8 (SS-) Engine switch on (IG) 0 to 5 V
      (Pulse generation)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      OK (When checking from DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART) A
      OK (When checking from PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE) B
      NG C

    C → REPLACE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 

    B → PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    A → REPLACE AFS ECU 

  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (STEERING CONTROL ECU - AFS ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the A40 Steering Control ECU connector.

    2. Disconnect The A29 AFS ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A40-5 (AFS-) - A29-8 (SS-) Always Below 1 Ω
      A40-2 (AFS+) - A29-7 (SS+) Always Below 1 Ω
      A29-8 (SS-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A29-7 (SS+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK AFS ECU 
    1. Reconnect the A29 AFS ECU connector.

    2. Measure the voltage of the connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A29-7 (SS+) - A29-8 (SS-) Engine switch on (IG) 0 to 5 V
      (Pulse generation)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      OK (When checking from DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART) A
      OK (When checking from PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE) B
      NG C

    C → REPLACE STEERING CONTROL ECU 

    B → PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    A → REPLACE AFS ECU
