Operating Light Control Rheostat does not Change Light Brightness: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Light Control Rheostat Light control rheostat/Min.: 0%, Max.: 100% Light control rheostat switch is Dark (0%) → Bright (100%) -

      OK

      Light brightness can be changed within the specified range by actual operation.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

  2. INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 
    1. Remove the light control rheostat.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R6-1 (E) - R6-7 (RV) Rheostat knob is in the MAX. position. 8 to 12 kΩ
      R6-1 (E) - R6-6 (TC) Always 8 to 12 kΩ
      R6-1 (E) - R6-7 (RV) Rheostat knob is in the MIN. position. Approx. 0 Ω
      R6-5 (T) - R6-6 (TC) Rheostat knob is in the MAX. position. Approx. 0 Ω
      R6-5 (T) - R6-6 (TC) Rheostat knob is in the MIN. position. 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT) 
    1. Disconnect the C9 and R6 connectors.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C9-13 (RE) - R6-1 (E) Always Below 1 Ω
      C9-14 (RV) - R6-7 (RV) Always Below 1 Ω
      C9-15 (RL) - R6-5 (T) Always Below 1 Ω
      C9-16 (TCAN SW) - R6-6 (TC) Always Below 1 Ω
      R6-1 (E) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R6-5 (T) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R6-6 (TC) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R6-7 (RV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
