DTC P0A94-557: DC / DC Converter Performance: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      P0A94-557 only is output. A
      Any of the following DTCs are also output. B

      HINT: 

      • *1: If any INF codes are output for this DTC, refer to the corresponding diagnostic flowchart.
      • P0A94-557 may be set due to a malfunction which also causes DTCs in the preceding table to be set. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the preceding table. After troubleshooting and repairing all output DTCs, be sure to replace the inverter with converter assembly.

    B → See step   22 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK AMOUNT OF GASOLINE 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Check the amount of fuel by referring to the fuel gauge in the meter.

      OK

      Proper amount of fuel is in the tank.

      HINT: 

      • If the vehicle is driven when there is no fuel in the tank, MG1 will crank the engine but the engine will not start. For this reason, an inoperative condition of MG1 may be detected.
      • Add fuel until the low fuel level warning light turns off.

    NG → REFUEL VEHICLE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK ENGINE START 
    1. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    2. Check if the engine starts.

      HINT: 

      Depressing the accelerator pedal with the shift lever in the P position will cause the engine to start.

      Result

  4. CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (P POSITION) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Move the shift lever to the P position and lift up the vehicle.
    3. Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.
      WARNING:

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection, to prevent the engine from starting.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The crankshaft does not rotate smoothly. A
      The crankshaft rotates smoothly. B

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (N POSITION) 
    1. Lower the vehicle.
    2. Move the shift lever to the N position and lift up the vehicle.
    3. Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.
      WARNING:

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection, to prevent the engine from starting.

      OK

      The crankshaft rotates smoothly.

    NG → See step   23 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE ENGINE ASSEMBLY 

  6. CHECK QUANTITY OF HV COOLANT. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 2 

    C → CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AND ADD COOLANT 

    B → ADD HV COOLANT 

    A: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK COOLANT HOSE. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CORRECT THE PROBLEM 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NG → See step   12 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE ELECTRIC COOLING FAN). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 5 

    NG → See step   24 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 6 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. INSPECT COOLING SYSTEM (FOR CLOGGING). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 7 

    NG → REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 

    OK → See step   25 

  12. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 8 

    NG → See step   13 

    OK → ADD HV COOLANT 

  13. CHECK FUSE (INV W/P). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 9 

    NG → See step   18 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 10 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 11 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 12 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  17. CHECK WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 13 

    NG → See step   27 

    OK → See step   26 

  18. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 14 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  19. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 15 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  20. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 16 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  21. CHECK WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 17 

    NG → See step   27 

    OK → See step   26 

  22. GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  23. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  24. CHECK COOLING FAN SYSTEM. Refer to  Cooling Fan Circuit 
  25. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  26. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  27. REPLACE WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
