DTC P0A94-172: DC / DC Converter Performance: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      HINT: 

      • *1: If any INF codes are output for this DTC, refer to the corresponding diagnostic flowchart.
      • P0A94-172 may be set due to a malfunction which also causes the DTCs in the preceding table to be set. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the preceding table. Then, perform a test to attempt to reproduce the problems, and check that no DTCs are output.

  2. CHECK AMOUNT OF GASOLINE 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Check the amount of fuel by referring to the fuel gauge in the meter.

      OK

      Proper amount of fuel is in the tank.

      HINT: 

      • If the vehicle is driven when there is no fuel in the tank, MG1 will crank the engine but the engine will not start. For this reason, an inoperative condition of MG1 may be detected.
      • Add fuel until the low fuel level warning light turns off.

    NG → REFUEL VEHICLE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK ENGINE START 
    1. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    2. Check if the engine starts.

      HINT: 

      Depressing the accelerator pedal with the shift lever in the P position will cause the engine to start.

  4. CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (P POSITION) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Move the shift lever to the P position and lift up the vehicle.
    3. Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.
      WARNING:

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection, to prevent the engine from starting.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The crankshaft does not rotate smoothly. A
      The crankshaft rotates smoothly. B

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (N POSITION) 
    1. Lower the vehicle.
    2. Turn the power switch off.
    3. Move the shift lever to the N position and lift up the vehicle.
    4. Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.
      WARNING:

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection, to prevent the engine from starting.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The crankshaft does not rotate smoothly. A
      The crankshaft rotates smoothly. B

    A → REPAIR OR REPLACE ENGINE 

  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY - GENERATOR RESOLVER). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK GENERATOR RESOLVER. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 5 

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY - MOTOR RESOLVER). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 6 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK MOTOR RESOLVER. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 7 

    NG → See step   19 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY (GENERATOR CABLE CONNECTION CONDITION). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 8 

    C → CONNECT SECURELY 

    B → REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 

    A: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY (MOTOR CABLE CONNECTION CONDITION). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 9 

    C → CONNECT SECURELY 

    B → REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 

    A: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (MG1). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 10 

    NG → See step   21 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (MG2). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 11 

    NG → See step   23 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (GENERATOR RESOLVER CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 12 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (MOTOR RESOLVER CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 13 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK → See step   27 

  17. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (GENERATOR RESOLVER CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 14 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  18. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY (MG ECU)-GENERATOR RESOLVER). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 15 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   26 

  19. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (MOTOR RESOLVER CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 16 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  20. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY (MG ECU)-MOTOR RESOLVER). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 17 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   26 

  21. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (GENERATOR CABLE CONNECTION CONDITION). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 18 

    C → CONNECT SECURELY 

    B → REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 

    A: Go to next step 

  22. CHECK GENERATOR CABLE. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 19

  23. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (MOTOR CABLE CONNECTION CONDITION). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 20

  24. CHECK MOTOR CABLE. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 21

  26. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  27. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  28. REPLACE GENERATOR CABLE. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  29. REPLACE MOTOR CABLE. Refer to  REMOVAL
