DTC P0A38-257: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A39-259: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMP NO2) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    4. Read the data list.

      OK

      Proceed to OK
      -58°F (-50°C) A
      401°F (205°C) B
      Same as actual temperature C

    C → See step   9 

    B → See step   5 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.
    3. Connect terminals 4 (GMT) and 8 (GMTG) of vehicle side connector E59 of the generator temperature sensor.

    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    6. Read the data list.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      401°F (205°C)

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   8 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Connect terminals 25 (GMT) and 24 (GMTG) of connector E55 of the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the data list.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      401°F (205°C)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the data list.

      OK

      Tester Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Power switch on (IG) -58°F (-50°C)

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   8 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect connector E55 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E55-25 (GMT) - E59-4 (GMT) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      E55-24 (GMTG) - E59-8 (GMTG) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E55-25 (GMT) or E59-4 (GMT) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E55-24 (GMTG) or E59-8 (GMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  7. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL  . 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
