  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (OPERATE OIL CONTROL VALVE FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT)
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the tester on.
    3. Warm up the engine.
    4. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2).
    5. Check the engine speed while operating the oil control valve using the tester.

      OK

      Tester Operation Specified Condition
-128% (Oil control valve OFF) Normal engine speed
127% (Oil control valve ON) Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after oil control valve switched from OFF to ON)

    NG → See step   2

OK → CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

  2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY
    1. Disconnect the exhaust camshaft timing oil control valve connector.

    3. Reconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.

NG → REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

    OK: Go to next step

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OCV - ECM)
    1. Disconnect the E21 or E31 OCV connector.
    2. Disconnect the E3 or E5 ECM connectors.
    3. Measure the resistance.
