DTC P3176-863: Transmission Oil Pump Motor Coil Temperature Sensor Circuit Low: Procedure

  1. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / HV ECU / DTC INFO / CLEAR CODES.
    4. Clear the DTCs.
      NOTE:

      Make sure to record DTCs and freeze frame data before clearing DTCs.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (OPM TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / OPM Temperature.
    4. Read the data list.

      Result

      Tester Display Proceed to
      200°C A
      Value equivalent to the actual temperature B

      HINT: 

      It is possible for the hybrid vehicle control ECU to detect P3176-863 when the power switch is on (READY), after at least 15 minutes have elapsed with the engine not running and the shift lever in a position other than P or N. This code can be detected within a single trip (1 trip).

    B → CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect connector E84 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      TOPM (E84-53) - Except for E2 (E84-54) 10 kΩ or more
      TOPM (E84-53) - E2 (E84-54) 121 to 129.7 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
      OMT (E86-1) - OMTG (E86-2) 50.49 to 55.01 kΩ at 40°C (104°F)
      OMT (E86-1) - OMTG (E86-2) 11.26 to 12.99 kΩ at 80°C (176°F)

    OK → See step   5 

    NG: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK OIL WITH MOTOR PUMP ASSEMBLY (OIL PUMP MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.

    2. Disconnect the oil pump motor temperature sensor connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      OMT (E86-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or more
      OMT (E86-1) - OMTG (E86-2) 121 to 129.7 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
      OMT (E86-1) - OMTG (E86-2) 50.49 to 55.01 kΩ at 40°C (104°F)
      OMT (E86-1) - OMTG (E86-2) 11.26 to 12.99 kΩ at 80°C (176°F)

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  6. REPLACE OIL WITH MOTOR PUMP ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS
