  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION)
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer 0, 40, 80, 120 mph (*1) -
      0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240 km/h (*2)

      *1: U.S.A.

*2: except for models for U.S.A.

      OK

      Needle indication is normal.

    NG → REPLACE COMBINATION METER

    OK: Go to next step

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED METER)
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the values in the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
Vehicle Speed Meter Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 255 km/h (158 mph) Almost same as actual speed (When driving) -

      OK

Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed.

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER

    NG: Go to next step

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FR/FL/RR/RL WHEEL SPEED)
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      ABS/VSC/TRAC:

Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
FR Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost same as actual speed (When driving) -
FL Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost same as actual speed (When driving) -
RR Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost same as actual speed (When driving) -
RL Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost same as actual speed (When driving) -

      OK

Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed.

    NG → See step   7

    OK: Go to next step

  4. CHECK SKID CONTROL ECU (SP1 INPUT VOLTAGE)
    1. Disconnect the A13 ECU connector.

    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A13-7 (SP1) - Body ground Power switch ON (IG) 10 to 14 V

    NG → See step   6

    OK: Go to next step

  5. CHECK COMBINATION METER (SI SIGNAL)
    1. Check the input signal waveform.

      1. Remove the combination meter with the connector still connected.
      2. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals K31-29 and body ground.
      3. Start the engine.
      4. Check the signal waveform of the connector.
        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 msec./DIV.
Vehicle condition Driving at approx. 20 km/h (12 mph)

        OK

        As shown in the illustration

        HINT:

As vehicle speed increases, the cycle of the signal waveform narrows.

NG → REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER

  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION METER - SKID CONTROL ECU)
    1. Disconnect the K31 meter connector.
Fig 3: Identifying K31 Meter And A13 ECU Connector Terminals
