Cluster Glass Does Not Become Tinted: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (INDICAT. ECD ON) 
    1. Cover the automatic light control sensor with a cloth to prevent it from sensing.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Power switch on (IG).
    4. Turn the tester ON.
    5. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    6. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Indicat. ECD ON Cluster glass Cluster glass becomes tinted when the active test is ON Confirm that the vehicle is stopped, engine idling

      OK

      Cluster glass becomes tinted when the active test is ON.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ECD SUNLIGHT SENSOR) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      ECD Sunlight Sensor ECD sunlight sensor input value/Min.: 0, Max.: 255 Between 50 to 70 Confirm that the vehicle is stopped, engine idling
      Between "light is not shined on automatic light control sensor" value and 195*

      HINT: 

      *: The value changes according to the intensity of the light.

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER 

    NG: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION METER - AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR)

    1. Disconnect the K31 meter connector.
    2. Disconnect the V34 sensor connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      K31-36 (MS5) - V34-5 (PHS5) Below 1 Ω
      K31-16 (MSS) - V34-3 (PHS) Below 1 Ω
      K31-18 (MSG) - V34-1 (PHSG) Below 1 Ω
      K31-36 (MS5)- Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      K31-16 (MSS) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      K31-18 (MSG) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK COMBINATION METER

    1. Connect the K31 meter connector.
    2. Disconnect the V34 sensor connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      V34-3 (PHS) - V34-5 (PHS5) 275 to 325 Ω
    4. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      V34-1 (PHSG) - V34-5 (PHS5) Power switch ON (IG) 4.6 to 5.4 V

    NG → REPLACE COMBINATION METER 

    OK → REPLACE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR 

  5. CHECK COMBINATION METER 
    1. Disconnect the connectors labeled A, B and C in the illustration.

    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector on the combination meter.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-1 - A-3 60 seconds after performing ACTIVE TEST "Indicate ECD ON" 1.22 to 1.32 V
      B-1 - B-3 60 seconds after performing ACTIVE TEST "Indicate ECD ON" 1.22 to 1.32 V
      C-1 - C-3 60 seconds after performing ACTIVE TEST "Indicate ECD ON" 1.22 to 1.32 V

    NG → REPLACE COMBINATION METER 

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER GLASS
