Front Passenger Side Seat Belt Warning Light Malfunction: Procedure

  1. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Confirm the vehicle model.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      w/o Occupant Classification System A
      w/ Occupant Classification System B

    B → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM 
    1. Check for supplemental restraint system (SRS) DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No SRS DTCs are output A
      SRS DTCs are output B

    B → GO TO SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Front Passenger Side Seat Belt Front Passenger Side Seat Belt Front Passenger side seat belt warning light is OFF/ON Confirm that the vehicle is stopped, engine idling

      OK

      Seat belt warning light for passenger side operates normally.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 

  4. CHECK COMBINATION METER 
    1. Check that the entire combination meter operates normally.

      OK

      Entire combination meter operates normally.

    NG → GO TO METER / GAUGE SYSTEM 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT FUSE (ECU-IG RH) 
    1. Remove the ECU-IG RH and AM2 fuses from the cowl side junction block LH.
    2. Remove the TV fuse from the cowl side junction block RH.
    3. Measure the resistance of the fuses.

      Standard resistance

      Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTI-DISPLAY - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the K46 Multi-display connector.

    2. Measure the voltage and resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      K46-3 (IG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V
      K46-1 (+B1) - Body ground Always 10 to 14 V

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      K46-10 (GND1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT MULTI-DISPLAY (SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT FOR PASSENGER SIDE) 
    1. Remove the multi-display.
    2. Apply battery voltage to the panel and check that the light illuminates.

      Standard

      Measurement Connection Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) → K46-3 (IG)
      Battery negative (-) → K46-21 (PBEW) and K46-10 (GND1)
      Seat belt warning light for passenger side turns on

    NG → REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION METER - MULTI-DISPLAY) 
    1. Disconnect the K31 meter connector.

    2. Disconnect the K46 multi-display connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K31-31 (PBLT) - K46-8 (PBEW) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER 

  9. CHECK DTC 
    1. Check for DTCs.
      RESULT:

      Result Proceed to
      DTC does not occur A
      Multiplex communication system DTC output occurs B
      Airbag system DTC output occurs C
      Occupant classification system DTC output occurs D

    D → GO TO OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM 

    C → GO TO SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM 

    B → GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION CIRCUIT 

    A: Go to next step 

  10. INSPECT FUSE 
    1. Remove the ECU-IG RH fuse from the driver side junction block.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ECU-IG RH fuse Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Front Passenger Side Seat Belt* Passenger seat belt warning light ON or OFF -

      HINT: 

      *: Confirm that the vehicle is stopped with the engine idling.

      OK

      Passenger seat belt warning light condition can be switched by "Active Test".

    NG → REPLACE COMBINATION METER 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTI-DISPLAY - COMBINATION METER, BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the K46 display connector.

    2. Measure the resistance and voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K46-21 (PBEW) - K31-31 (PBLT) Always Below 1 Ω
      K46-10 (GND1) - Body ground
      K46-21 (PBEW) or K31-31 (PBLT) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      K46-3 (IG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK MULTI-DISPLAY 
    1. Disconnect the K46 display connector.

    2. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal 3 (IG), and the negative (-) battery's lead to terminals 21 (PBEW) and 10 (GND1).
    3. Check that thee seat belt warning light comes on.

      OK

      Seat belt warning light comes on.

    NG → REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. INSPECT FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Disconnect the a 18 belt connector.

    2. Connect the battery's positive lead (+) to terminal 1 of the front seat inner belt RH connector.
    3. Connect the battery's negative lead (-) to the negative (-) terminal of a tester.
    4. Connect the positive (+) terminal of the tester to terminal 2 of the front seat inner belt RH connector.
    5. Measure the current according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard current

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Tongue plate inserted 12 to 18 mA
      Tongue plate not inserted 4 to 7 mA

    NG → REPLACE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH 

    OK → REPLACE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
