Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Lexus RX 400h. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK CONNECTION CONDITION OF HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (LOOSENESS AND POOR CONTACT) 
    1. Check the connections of all HV control ECU connectors.

      OK: 

      Connectors are connected securely and there is no poor connection.

    NG: CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Result 

      HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU

      Tester Connection Voltage Proceed to
      GMT (H32-22) - GMTG (H32-32) Approximately 0 V A
      9 to 14 V B

    A: Go to step   5 

    B: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (+B SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the H32 connector from the HV control ECU.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Result 

      +B SHORT

      Tester Connection Voltage Proceed to
      GMT (H32-22) - GMTG (H32-32) Approximately 0 V A
      9 to 14 V B
      NOTE: Turning the ignition switch to the ON position with the HV control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing the inspection.

    A: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

    B: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (+B SHORT) 
    1. Remove the w/ converter inverter. (See INVERTER WITH CONVERTER )
    2. Disconnect the H32 connector from the HV control ECU.
    3. Disconnect the M13 generator temperature sensor connector.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      +B SHORT

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      GMT (M13-4) - Body ground Approximately 0 V

      NOTE: Turning the ignition switch to the ON position with the HV control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing the inspection.

      HINT:

      The generator temperature sensor is not available as a single product. If it requires replacement, replace the HV transaxle assembly.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 

  5. INSPECT GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect the H32 connector from the HV control ECU.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR (1 OF 2)

      Tester Connection Resistance Temperature
      GMT (H32-22) - GMTG (H32-32) 142.6 to 184.1 kΩ 0°C (32°F)
      44.2 to 54.4 kΩ 25°C (77°F)
      16.2 to 19.1 kΩ 50°C (122°F)
      3.1 to 3.5 kΩ 100°C (212°F)

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR (2 OF 2)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      GMT (H32-22) or GMTG (H32-32) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Remove the w/ converter inverter. (See INVERTER WITH CONVERTER )
    2. Disconnect the H32 connector from the HV control ECU.
    3. Disconnect the M13 generator temperature sensor connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      HV CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR (1 OF 2)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      GMT (H32-22) - GMT (M13-4) Below 1 Ω
      GMTG (H32-32) - GMTG (M13-9) Below 1 Ω
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      HV CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR (2 OF 2)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      GMT (H32-22) or GMTG (H32-32) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

      HINT:

      The generator temperature sensor is not available as a single product. If it requires replacement, replace the HV transaxle assembly.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY
