Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Lexus RX 400h. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Use the intelligent tester to read the freeze frame data and information. Part of the engine running conditions at the time of the malfunction is recorded as freeze frame data and information. This information is useful when troubleshooting the malfunction. (Engine speed, engine load, engine coolant temperature, engine output demand value, ambient temperature, auxiliary battery voltage, intake air temperature, elapsed time after turning the ignition switch on, and other information)

  1. INSPECT BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR
    1. Resistance check
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        1 - 2 1.91 to 2.05 kΩ at 24 to 26°C ( 75 to 79°F)

        HINT:

The auxiliary battery must be removed to inspect the battery thermometer sensor. Record DTCs, freeze frame data, and other information before removing the auxiliary battery.

    NG: REPLACE BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR)
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the H29 and H32 connectors from the HV control ECU.
    3. Disconnect the B19 battery thermometer sensor connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for open)

HV CONTROL ECU - BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      THB (H29-30) - THB (B19-1) Below 1 Ω
      E2 (H32-28) - E2 (B19-2) Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for short)

HV CONTROL ECU - BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      THB (H29-30) - THB (B19-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      E2 (H32-28) - E2 (B19-2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
